The Heartbeat of Brindleyplace

ARTIST

idontloveyouanymore

LOCATION

Oozells Square, Brindleyplace

The Heartbeat of Brindleyplace is a collection of live Brummie hearts. Each box contains a light, and each light is connected to the heartbeat of a participant - the light will flash on every heartbeat. Wherever the participants are during this piece, whether they are together or apart, far away or near the work, their heartbeats will be seen, flashing together. It is part of a nationwide project called Matters of the Heart by creative studio idontloveyouanymore, who work with participants to collect the stories and heartbeats you can see today.

⏺︎ SPOTLIGHT

WHAT TO EXPECT (ACCESS)

The artwork features small illuminated lights that pulse in time with recorded heartbeats. There is no music, no amplified sound, and no flashing or strobe lighting beyond the gentle pulsing of the lights.

There is no dedicated seating for the installation. The square surface is pebbled, which may feel uneven underfoot for some visitors. Step-free access is available throughout Brindleyplace, though visitors using wheelchairs or mobility aids may wish to take extra care on the pebbled surface. There is a shallow stream which runs through the square, and parents are advised to keep young children close.

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

The boxes are battery powered and rechargeable.
