Our Beating Heart reimagines one of nightlife’s most universal icons - the mirror ball - and reshapes it into a symbol of connection and compassion.
As the heart rotates to the beat, it scatters glimmers of light onto passing faces, couples holding hands and friends dancing under the stars. By day, it brightly mirrors its surroundings. By night, it becomes a beacon of light which immerses all of Canalside. See the space transformed with shimmering light and let the thousands of reflections of light wash over you!

ARTIST / STUDIO BIO
Studio Vertigo is a UK-based art and design collective founded by artists Lucy McDonnell and Stephen Newby. Working with a multidisciplinary team, they create immersive light installations and sculptural interventions that respond to, integrate with - and sometimes gently disrupt - their surroundings. Each project begins as a dialogue between form and place: light as material, space as canvas, audience as collaborator.

WHAT TO EXPECT (ACCESS)
The installation includes reflected moving lights and amplified music, creating a disco-style atmosphere. Lighting is dynamic but does not include strobe effects.
There is no seating, and visitors can stand, pause, or move around freely. The work is in a busy public space, particularly during evenings and weekends.
Step-free access (lifts and ramps) is available throughout the Mailbox, with level surfaces suitable for wheelchair users and mobility aids. Visitors are welcome to engage at their own pace.
